When you just need breakfast. . .
Breakfast, although one of my favorite meals, is one of those meals that I rarely seek out. I usually grab a coffee and some fruit and am out the door. But sometimes, it is something you are craving and you just simply must have. Last week was one of those times, well twice to be honest. Not knowing where to go to get a great breakfast is a little harder. Sometimes you forget about the old favorites, the places that have been around for years. . . Which brings me to The Big Apple Diner.
The Big Apple Diner is located on Kitsap Way in Bremerton and has been serving our community for at least 15 years. This place looks like it is right out of the 50's with the soda fountain and decor. It is actually kind of cute.
The first time I went there last week was with a friend. For some reason I was craving something sweet. They offered french toast, pancakes, crepes and waffles. Then I saw the Roasted Almond Coconut Waffle served with its very own special coconut syrup and it came with bacon. I was sold!
I wasn't disappointed. Perfect buttery waffles sweetened with coconut syrup, the light airy whipped cream, the toasted coconut scattered on top and the extra enjoyment of the crunchy almonds satisfied my every sense. Everything always tastes better with crispy bacon, right?? Oh yes it did!!! (Sorry I devoured it so quickly, I didn't even get a picture.)
Now I don't normally eat a lot of sweets, so this was kind of a unique experience for me. However when I got home and was telling my kids about how wonderful this waffle was, I had them begging to go. Seriously, how often does mom come home and tell them about sweet things, like waffles?
So off we went again the following Saturday. A few of us ordered the waffle which they thought was absolutely amazing. A few were ready for lunch and had hamburgers, which they said were delish, especially with the huge french fries. I went with the Eggs Benedict. It was very good, although I am still a bigger fan of the waffle, just can't do that all the time and maintain my waistline, right?
Anyway, if you are looking for a breakfast place or simply forgot an old "friend", do go check them out.
