Kids are Back in School, What is a MOM (or Dad) to Do?
Until I started doing Real Estate Full-time, I was a home schooling mom. I was always on the lookout for activities for my kids. I wanted a positive, safe place where I could take my kids and do things with them. A place where they could meet friends. Especially when the rainy season starts, it is nice to have somewhere to go to burn off a little energy. One place I found is the Bremerton Family YMCA.
Their programs stress core values, such as honesty, responsibility, caring and respect. Who wouldn't want those values taught to their kids? Their programs include different sports, martial arts, dance, swim and even cooking. There is something for almost every kid, young and old alike. My kids and I have taken some classes or did an event together which was super fun and created a lot of very fond memories.
As my kids grew up and didn't want mom hanging out with them, I knew most of the staff and felt totally comfortable leaving them to do their own thing. A favorite was Teen Late Night. However, just dropping them off to play basketball, lift weights, go for a swim or hang out in the activity room was always a nice break for them.
I always believed that it was important to be a good role model for my kids and show them how important it is to maintain a healthy lifestyle. When I would take my kids to an activity or drop them off, I would do a class, lift some weights or go for a run or swim. I really believe this is why my kids have all been very active because they have seen me modeling this behavior for years.
Besides being a healthy habit for our family, our family has met so many wonderful people over the years through the Y. These are friendships that started there and has moved into other areas of our lives.
If you haven't checked out the Y, please do. They have so much to offer and there are scholarships available that are supported through their annual campaign drive. So go ahead and take the plunge and check them out today.
