Young Eagles - Free Flights for kids 8-18
Here is one of my favorite Bremerton secrets. . .This year is Bremerton's 27th Blackberry Festival Anniversary. Many people are aware of the festival. . . all the amazing Blackberry Slugs from the Lion's Club, the blackberry pies and the blackberry wine. There is sidewalk chalk art, street fair, live bands, opportunities to tour the USS Turner Joy, and so much more.
At the Bremerton Airport, they have a car show. You can even look inside of airplanes, helicopters, and army trucks. However, one activity that many are not aware of is the Young Eagles. This is a great program that is held at the Bremerton Airport. This year it is on Saturday, September 3, 2016 from 9-2.
The program was created to encourage an interest of flying in the youth. They take the kids and walk them through the parts of the plane, give them a passport book, and in the past have offered posters of a cockpit. All of that is pretty cool stuff. The best part, though, is that they offer kids (8-18 years of age) free airplane rides! Yes, let me say that again - FREE airplane rides!! Of course an adult needs to be there with them to sign release papers. The planes are usually very small 2-4 seat air crafts. The kids get an opportunity to talk to their pilot about the plane they ride in and even listen to all the communication between the pilot and the tower.
OK, so I said it is a secret . . . the deal is many people see Young Eagles advertised with the festival, however, many don't know what it is and don't take advantage of this amazing opportunity. For those that do, it is popular, so make sure you are checked in before 2 pm so you don't miss out on the fun!
The Blackberry Festival is September 3-5. Don't forget to check out everything this Festival has to offer. Below are some links.
