Back to School
August always makes me a little sad. . . the kids will be heading back to school soon, the warm summer days are coming to an end, less day light hours. . . so one thing I try to do is to take full advantage of the last warm summer days.
This week I am going to share another less known place where I have spent many hours with my kids enjoying summer. Most people have heard of Point No Point in Hansville. It has a beautiful lighthouse, beaches and you can watch huge ships come into port. However, very few people are aware that just right around the corner is a cute little lake, called Buck Lake.
This park is not very big and very quiet, but it has ample parking, so no driving around trying to get the last space, like Point No Point on hot summer days. There is a wonderful grassy area to throw out blankets and towels to relax and perhaps read a book. There is a marked swimming area. My older kids have taken little paddle boats out past the swimming area to explore the rest of the lake. It is great for a mom who always wants to have them in sight, but still allow them some freedom to do their own thing. There is a lot of places in the park to BBQ. When the kids get tired of swimming, there is even a play area! It is a wonderful way to spend a fun filed day with the kids.
Getting there is easy too. If you can find Point No Point, it is super easy. Where you normally turn right to Pt. No Pt., you make a left. Follow the bends and the park will be on your right side. Park and follow the sidewalks back until you arrive at the lake.
Dogs are allowed on leashes. They even have life jackets available at the lake to borrow or for the more inexperienced swimmers.
